Saracens came into the game off of a 35 – 15 loss to the Wasps. Whereas Clermont came off a huge win against La Rochelle. Both teams had their league play offs in mind and winning this wouldn’t only be a great achievement but gives them a lot of confidence to go on for a possible double for either team.
Saracens had a chance to make it two Champions cup wins in a row. The only other teams that have done that are Leicester, Toulon and Leinster. Clermont were looking to win the tournament for the first time in a decade.
Saracens started very well going 12 – 0 up as result of tries from Chris Ashton and George Kruis. But Remi Lemerat hit back to put Clermont within 5 points going into half time.
The second half was even more eventful as Farrell scored 3 penalties and converted one more try scored by Alex Goode. But before the try and 2 of the penalties that saw the Saracens pull away, A converted try by Nick Abendanon got the French team to only one point behind. Unfortunately for them, the Saracens did pull away and recorded a memorable back to back Champions Cup triumph.
