Graig Laidlaw begins what may be his final game for the Cherry and Whites on the bench.
Gloucester are looking to win this cup for a third time, while Stade Francais have made it to four finals of this tournament and they haven’t won yet. Can they win in their 5th final of the Challenge cup?
10th Minute – Stade Francais look more confident. They were close to the line but a knock on prevented them from scoring. One tactic that is standing out for Gloucester is the kick and chase. The man who seems to be under the ball frequently is Charlie Sharples. It’s working well so far for Gloucester. But they still need to add more energy into their attacking game.
TRY: AFTER A MOMENT OF MAGIC BY SERGIO PARISSE, THE BALL WAS INTERCEPTED BY JOHNNY MAY WHO DASHED 60 YARDS TO THE LINE TO SCORE BETWEEN THE POSTS.
GLOUCESTER 7 – 0 STADE FRANCAIS
20th Minute: Its turned around and Stade Francais’ defence looks weak. However, the scrum is being dominated by the French team. It has opened up now. Ben Morgan has his work cut out at the back of the Gloucester scrum.
PENALTY: BILLY BURNS KICKS IT FROM 25 YARDS OUT.
GLOUCESTER 10 – 0 STADE FRANCAIS
PENALTY: FROM 50 YARDS OUT STADE FRANCAIS ARE TO WITHIN 7PTS OF GLOUCESTER.
GLOUCESTER 10 – 3 STADE FRANCAIS
30th Minute: A much more open game as there are gaps in both defences at most times. So there are many breakaways and carries from both teams. Very entertaining!
TRY: A LITTLE BREAK FOLLOWED WITH A LITTLE KICK THROUGH SAW SERGIO PARISSE DIVE OVER THE LINE. AFTER REVIEW FROM TMO LOOKING FOR OFFSIDE, THE TRY IS GOOD!
GLOUCESTER 10 – 10 STADE FRANCAIS
SIN-BIN: WILLY HINES SENT OFF FOR TEN DUE TO AN ELBOW TO THE FACE OF A STADE FRANCAIS PLAYER. LUCKY TO GET OFF WITHOUT A RED.
35th Minute: Ben Morgan is having a great game. His carries are getting Gloucester out of trouble and into the other half. His tackles are also great. Gloucester almost scored when their high pressure defense pushed the french team’s full back to drop the ball on the 22 line. But they couldn’t handle the ball in the try deciding moment.
39th Minute: Aggression comes in as a fierce fight breaks out with almost every player on the pitch getting involved. It was like a street fight. Penalty against Gloucester and no sending off.
HALF TIME – An aggressive first half and it was very entertaining. The stand out men so far have been the two number 8s in my opinion.
Gloucester 10 – 10 Stade Francais
42nd minute: Laidlaw is on. He has captained his country in 35 times in this stadium. If they win this, he will play again for them in the Champions cup play offs but if his team loses, it is his last appearance for the cherry and whites.
PENALTY MISSED: 45 YARDS OUT AND STADE FRANCAIS MISS A CHANCE TO PULL AHEAD.
50th Minute: Gloucester have 15 men again but seem to have lost their tempo from the first half and have taken their foot off the pedal a bit. Now is the time for the French team to strike.
55th Minute: Charlie Sharples wins the ball from a kick yet again. From that, another kick was delivered and was touched down by Tom Marshell a molecule over the dead ball line. Though no try was awarded, a penalty try could have been awarded.
TRY: THE BALL WAS INTERCEPTED ON THE HALF WAY LINE BY THE STADE FRANCAIS PLAYER BUT HE WAS HELPED TO THE TRY WHEN JOHNNY MAY SLIPPED AND COULDN’T MAKE THE TACKLE. IT WAS NOT CONVERTED. THAT MY BE CRUCIAL TO THE FULL TIME RESULT.
GLOUCESTER 10 – 15 STADE FRANCAIS
60th Minute: Ben Morgan is still the stand out man but his team need to perform even better now to win this crucial game. in the Gloucester season. Stade Francais seem to always get a from any scrum. They are dominating the scrum.
PENALTY MISSED: STADE FRANCAIS GET THE CHANCE TO GO 8PTS UP AND MISS IT!
70th Minute: Gloucester just hanging on, their 5pts behind and don’t look like scoring. But their opponents are the opposite.
TRY: ITS PRETTY MUCH OVER NOW. WITH 9 MINUTES LEFT, A HUGE DIVE HELPS STADE FRANCAIS TO A 12 POINT LEAD. IT LOOKS LIKE THE FRENCH TEAM ARE FINALLY GOING TO WIN THE CHALLENGE CUP.
GLOUCESTER 10 – 22 STADE FRANCAIS
PENALTY: THIS TIME THEY DON’T MISS. THE SILVERWARE IS SECURED, THE CHAMPIONS CUP PLAYOFFS ARE SECURED AND GLOUCESTER WILL BE LEFT WITH NOTHING FOR ALL THEIR SEASON’S HARD WORK. STADE FRANCAIS ARE PULLING AWAY FROM GLOUCESTER.
GLOUCESTER 10 – 25 STADE FRANCAIS
TRY: THE LION, ROSS MORIARTI SCORES WITH ONE MINUTE LEFT. GLOUCESTER GET ONE BACK. BUT ITS TO LATE NOW.
GLOUCESTER 17 – 25 STADE FRANCAIS
FULL TIME – GLOUCESTER 17 – 25 STADE FRANCAIS
THE MAN OF THE MATCH IS STADE FRANCAIS MAN PARISSE. BUT YOU HAVE GOT TO SAY THAT IS OPPOSITE NUMBER, BEN MORGAN DESERVED IT MORE.
