WFL 3 October eyeopeners

Saturday 13th October – TBGC V TAW

Next weekend two tightly matched sides take competitiveness to the next level as Trefelin BGC host Treharris Athletic Western. This fixture on May 5th this year finished 5 – 2 to Treharris. The match between these two sides before that finished 3 – 1 to Trefelin. With both teams pushing for promotion this season, this should be the standout fixture of the weekend. In a heartbreaking season Trefelin finished in 3rd on goal difference last season. And 20 points behind them were Treharris in 4th. But this match will most definitely not be so one sided. In fact this season the visitors are 2 points above the home side in 5th place, but Trefelin, having had a poor start by their standards, have recently found their form. After a 3 – 2 away victory against previous league leaders Penydarren, they will be in top confidence travelling to Ynysygerwn this weekend. Treharris however lost to Penydarren last weekend at home and haven’t been able to string together some good form since this season commenced. They host the struggling Panteg on the weekend and will need the win to go into this one with a good chance of coming away with all 3 points.

Saturday 20th October – The Relegated vs The Promoted

AFC Porth had a disastrous time in the 17/18 WFL2 season finishing bottom with only 5 points and being relegated to this division. However things are turning for them as life in the 4th tier is proving successful. They are in 6th place currently with 9 points and their only loss came at the beginning of the season through Treowen. But a 5 game unbeaten run has seen them pick up strong results against sides towards the top, they have more wins then last season already and 8 goals scored so far. Penydarren started the season as the new boys but have established themselves as title contenders. Until their loss to Trefelin, they had a 100% record and after it, they got back on track with a 3 – 1 win at the formidable Treharris. They are one point off the top, and haven’t drawn one game yet, suggesting that there is likely to be a winner at the end of this one. But who will it be?
